Evaluation; 4) Who would be the audiance for your media product?

4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our target audience is a family, we decided our film would be suitable for all ages from 5-60+ when creating the narrative of the film we  of the film we had to consider how we were going to make the film age appropriate for all ages up still incorporate mild humour that adults would find entertaining. We also considered gender and how we were going to make the film enjoyable for both genders.
We also looked at certain actors and actresses that the target audience would like, for instance we looked at kids programmes with certain actors in so children could familiarise themselves with actors they have seen on their TV programmes so they will enjoy the movie more, plus using kid actors also helps as the children watching would be more interesting. We also got actors from popular TV shows that adults enjoy watching and incorporated them into our product so the adults would enjoy is more.
When considering the narrative we had to think how we could us conventions that children would like and use other conventions adults will enjoy, by incorporating innuendos that are hard to understand will bring humour in a un-rude way for the children, so adults will be able to enjoy certain parts of the film whilst the children are enjoying it all. Also we had to consider certification as the film is PG we had to moderate how scary or explicit a scene could be, we had to balance this out to make sure the film was suitable for all ages but still entertaining for all ages.
When we were planning for our target audience we sent out a survey to see what genre people enjoy more and we were given these results, we could see people enjoyed adventure more than family  but our ensureis a sub genre of family adventure so our product is a win win. also the film most enjoyed was Jumanji which is the film most similar to ours.

Jumanji is similar to our film considering the concept of being sucked into a game, and Jumanji’s target audience is also for families and is also rated as a PG, and looking at Jumanji there are certain scenes that can be seen as inappropriate for little ones, maybe it was too scary or a bit too explicit. when they were planning there film they would of had to consider what was okay to be used in the final cut and what was not suitable for the target audience.

the film must be suitable for the set target audience because if it is not suitable then the film will be given a bad review and a bad name, and if it is given these bad names then it will prevent more people coming to view the film and will prevent people from possibly viewing new films by the production company this is why we must take our target audience into consideration in order to make the best media product to our ability.
