Evaluation; 1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms of real media products

1)    In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our genre is a children’s adventure film. We named it Kamoki’s temple as we thought it sounded adventurous and mysterious, which fits in with the generic conventions of an adventure film.  We also incorporated generic conventions such as; mild humour, stereotypes and the story line. We thought using mild humour for all ages would be effective as all different ages would watch a family adventure, so we thought we need to use such conventions to entertain all ages of the family. We also incorporated stereotypes so all target audiences can sort of relate to the characters. The storyline is also adventurous as 5 friends embark on an unbelievable adventure to escape a game they accidently got sucked in to, but they must defeat the evil king Kamoki but must have some help from a few friends they meet on their journey.
We decided to go with following the stereotypical aspects of an adventure film. Our target audience is for a family so we had to incorporate certain conventions that are used in family adventure film so it would be recognisable and apparent that our film was a family adventure to all members of the target audience. If we made the genre hard to get and use un-stereotypical conventions then some members of the target audience would not understand the film and would be put off from the film.
We developed and showed these conventions by making our story line , location and creating different characters to suit certain characters so certain members of the target audience could relate to the our characters and have favourites matched on their own personalities. We wanted to follow the norm of a family adventure film and have the same characteristics of this genre because we wanted the target audience to understand what genre easier. We did chose a more rural area where as most adventure films are set in a urban setting, we thou decided to go against this stereotypical aspect as we thought we could challenge it and make the genre better and make the target audience enjoy the film more.

Other films have influenced our film slightly as we looked at Jumanji and the Goonies. The group thought if we looked at the best parts of the film for inspiration, and we decided to go with a certain character scheme which was similar to the goonies, we also looked at the goonies character personalities and went with a similar idea, lastly we looked at Jumanji’s narrative and we thought being sucked into a game sounded “fun” and decided to use the same sort of scheme.
